Modelling-heavy actuarial IC

Closer to a modelling-heavy IC than a pricing-underwriting partner because novel risk quantification and automation outweigh live deal support.

Senior P&C actuarial role in Mountain View, California, supporting commercial auto pricing, reserving, and risk modelling for autonomous vehicles. You will own end-to-end analyses, build scalable data pipelines, quantify novel driving risks, and partner with Risk, Safety, Engineering, Product, Legal, and Finance on a hybrid schedule.

Requirements

Strongly preferred

  • FCAS strongly preferred; ACAS considered for exceptional candidates
  • Proven track record in casualty pricing, reserving, or risk modeling (commercial auto / transportation lines preferred)
  • Fluent in R or Python with advanced proficiency in SQL, spreadsheet modeling (Google Sheets / Excel), and data visualization tools
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Economics, or related quantitative field
  • Strong predisposition toward process automation and ability to rapidly learn and leverage AI tools and modern analytical platforms
  • Ability to scope ambiguous problems, research solutions, and execute independently with reliability
  • Exceptional ability to articulate complex quantitative findings to technical, non-technical, and executive stakeholders

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in Statistics, Data Science, Quantitative Finance, or related field
  • Hands-on experience integrating AI/LLM tools, ML libraries, or advanced statistical modeling into actuarial or insurance workflows
  • CERA designation or extensive ERM framework experience
  • Experience modeling risk for autonomous vehicles, rideshare fleets, novel mobility concepts, or complex commercial auto programs
