Pricing partner to underwriting

Closer to an underwriting partnership role than a modelling-heavy IC position because its value is judged by business pricing decisions and stakeholder alignment.

Senior P&C actuarial role in Markel’s Professional Liability team in Virginia. You’ll lead pricing and reserving analyses for Commercial Professional Lines, support new business and acquisition evaluations, and advise underwriting and senior leaders. ACAS and 8–10 years of experience are required; FCAS is preferred.

Requirements

Must have

  • ACAS designation required
  • Minimum of 8-10 years actuarial experience
  • 5+ years experience in Professional Lines products (E&O, D&O, EPLI)
  • Strong emphasis on Commercial Lines pricing
  • US work authorization required; no visa sponsorship
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in mathematics, statistics, or related analytical field

Strongly preferred

  • Proven ability to lead and manage projects
  • Strong communication skills to influence Underwriting and other business partners
  • Ability to clearly articulate and defend actuarial assumptions, methodologies, and conclusions
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with business judgment
  • Experience working in cross-functional environments driving alignment

Nice to have

  • Ability to balance creativity with sound actuarial discipline
  • FCAS preferred
