Insurance regulatory actuarial leader

Closer to regulatory compliance than capital-risk strategy—the mandate spans filings, examinations and public protection, not just an insurer’s internal capital framework.

Director-level P&C actuarial leadership role with Colorado’s Division of Insurance in Denver. You will oversee actuarial services covering rate filings, reserve adequacy, financial examinations, solvency, risk-based capital, and emerging insurance products while managing staff and advising regulators and external stakeholders. The role is hybrid, with office attendance set by business need, and pays $113,556-$151,920 annually.

Requirements

Must have

  • 10 years professional actuarial experience (or 6 with bachelor's degree)
  • 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Experience in regulated insurance company, actuarial consulting, or government regulation
  • Must pass reference and background check
  • Ability to travel up to 10% and work hybrid in Denver office

Strongly preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, economics, finance, math, statistics, or related field
  • Hold or be eligible for ASA/FSA/ACAS/FCAS and AAA membership
  • Completion of 4 SOA or CAS actuarial exams
  • Experience with Principle Based Reserving (PBR) and ORSA
  • Experience with statistical rating models (GLMs)
  • Experience in predictive modeling and statistical programming (R, Python, SAS)
  • Project management experience
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Ideal for a senior P&C actuary with regulatory, consulting or government experience, at least two years supervising staff, and strong judgment across rate review, reserves and solvency. Experience with PBR, ORSA, GLMs or R/Python/SAS would strengthen the fit; actuarial credentials are preferred but not required.
